The Proposal (2009)

Sandra Bullock returns to the familiar ground of the romantic comedy in the Anne Fletcher directed The Proposal.
Starring as Margaret Tate, Bullock plays the work-a-holic Canadian, too busy to keep appointments with her immigration lawyer to perfection. When her perfect world is knocked sideways with the news her Visa application has been denied and she needs to return to her hometown of Toronto, Margaret announces her engagement to her put upon executive assistant Andrew (played by Ryan Reynolds).
As part of the deal, Andrew takes Margaret home to Alaska for his Grandmothers 90th birthday. In a role that had me constantly laughing Hollywood legend Betty White is perfect casting in the role of Grammy Annie.
The mixed reviews of this movie made me hesitant to watch it, but I have to say, I thought it was a great movie for a rainy Sunday evening. It's not rocket science by any means. It's an easy watch that has more than enough laughs to keep anyone entertained.
My only fault with the film was the predictability of the plot. That said, sometimes you just want to watch a film that you know will have a happy ending. Besides, it's a romantic comedy, so the ending is given away by the genre anyway.
The scenes that were shot on location in Alaska are absolutely beautiful and there is a scene not long after Margaret and Andrew have arrived involving a fluffy dog, Sandra Bullock, and eagle and a mobile phone that I found extremely funny.
If you're after a light-hearted, romantic comedy, with a smattering of nonsense I can highly recommend this film. Just remember to relax and enjoy it. If you go in thinking it's serious drama you're going to be seriously disappointed.

To be honest - Bullock is a favourite - so can do very little wrong - and Reynolds is non offending and affable but will forever be in the class of 'what's that actors name' brigade - but the two simply don't gel in this throw-away piece of fluff.
Yeah - nice bit of Sunday night viewing but that's about the extent of it.
