Dixie Carter May 1939 - April 2010
Designing Women star Dixie Carter, who played Julia Sugarbaker in the hit 80's sitcom passed away today from undisclosed causes. Best known as the sassy southern belle who, along with her sister - played by Delta Burke - ran an interior design company. For the 80's the sitcom tackled some fairly heavy fare including storylines on abortion and AIDS.
Most recently Dixie Carter was nominated for an Emmy for her guest starring role as the mother to Bree in Desperate Housewives.
Beyond Designing Women, Dixie Carter starred in many tv shows and was a star on Broadway. Other TV shows inc: Different Strokes and Law & Order
VU and Dixie Carter was 70 years old at the time of her passing. She is survived by her husband Hal Holbrooke and two daughters.
