With part one of the final instalment in the Harry Potter series due to hit cinemas in November 2010, I thought it was time to catch up with the gang at Hogswarts for the only film in the series I have so far not seen at that cinema.

Starting his sixth year at Hogwarts, mourning the loss of Sirius and trying to come to terms with the return of Voldermort, Harry is introduced to Professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) who has been lured out of retirement by Dumbledore to teach potions at Hogwarts.

Professor Slughorn has a tendency of adopting his star pupil, and it is Dumbledores belief that Slughorn will reach for Harry as he did many years ago for Tom Riddle, who as all fans know grew to become the darkest wizard in history.

Into this ever darkening world, young love blooms between Ginny and Harry and Hermoine and Ron. It's really sweet to watch as the four become two couples, especially as the world around them is going mad.

Deatheaters descend on the Weasley home, burning it to the ground, an unbreakable curse ties Professor Snape to Drago Malfoy and Bellatrix Le Strange (Helena Bonhem Carter) pops up, causes havoc and leaves again in a cloud of sooty smoke.

Like the books the films each descend a further step into the darkness and this film is no exception. Harry does as he is bidden and becomes Slughorns prize pupil, winning a bottle of distilled luck and the answer he seeks to Voldermorts immortality.

Dumbledore and Malfoy face off in as per Voldemorts wishes and as any one who has read the book knows it is the outcome of this meeting with Snape stepping in at the last minute that sets Harry's feet on the path that will bring him face to face in the last film wtih Voldemort.

I really enjoyed this film. There were alot of scenes missing that were contained in the books and that's to be expected. I made the mistake once of reading the book before I saw the film and have not done it since. The visual images are spectacular and the Quidditch Game was so much fun to watch.

The budding romances make an effort to lighten the mood of the film, and the character of Luna Lovegood is so much fun to watch in the film. I always thought her character was the best of the supporting characters in the books too.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince was a really enjoyable film. I'm definitely looking forward to The Deathly Hallows when it comes out in November.
