Current Trends - Comicbook Adaptations

Now, I'll be one of the first to admit that I'm a dyed in the wool geek. You could get this from the fact that I'm blogging, although that has become a lot more mainstream before I stepped out of the com-closet. You could also get this from my being a life-long role-playing game enthusiast, a hobby that I started back in January of 1980, when I was a six years-old and improperly thought of as hyper, turned out I was just smart and needed a creative outlet. But, we could go back a bit further than that, to the fact that around the same time that I was getting into Star Wars, at age four, I was also getting into comic books.
Yeah, I started reading young, too. Like I said, I was smart, not hyper, but only my Grampa Fiegi had a solid lock on that fact, everyone else pressured mom into getting me on Ritalin. Feh. But, I digress.
I love comicbooks, of all genres and companies. Comicbooks have been a medium that pushes boundaries, introduces kids to tough subjects and concepts, and all while entertaining us and our imaginations. You'd think that they would have gotten a lot more respect early on, but they didn't, at least not until various artists gave picture to the miraculous visions of some amazing writers. Now, skip forward to today. Comicbook adaptations are some of the talk of the town, many of which with Oscar caliber actors in performances that are applauded, some even in revered tones.
Whether it was Heath Ledger's Joker performance, which was so stellar that it eclipsed excellent work by Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, and a phenomenal ensemble cast. Here we are with a Batman movie that not only outshined other Batman movies, equaled it's previous movie, but it also blew away so-called "regular" movies, too. Then we have Iron Man, seriously an excellent launch to a franchise and a good place to point and show people that not only has Robert Downey Jr. gotten better, but he can carry something magnificent, too.
But, let's look at other adaptations, too. 300. Sin City.
Yeap, comicbooks, as I'm sure we've all heard or been told in various interviews and commercials, but it needs bearing since most would not think of these as comicbook movies, yet they are. I guess that is a trend that will disappear, soon, as they're movies, not comicbook movies., We're entering a period were people are full aware that comicbooks can be just as high-minded and literary masterworks, as some novels are, just as some novels can be pure drivel.
Comicbooks are becoming the source of so many forthcoming movies, television shows, and their writers are being sought after in numbers that they were not before. You'll find comicbook writers in Hollywood, Seattle, and other places as they world on movies, tv, and video games, all focused on the fact that the geek, the nerd, and the dork, not to mention other names of the past, are all coming into prominence, and the entertainment shows that.
If you find yourself enjoying some of these movies, you might wanna go to a comicbook store and look at what's coming to theaters next, as I'm fairly sure you'll find the next summer blockbuster sitting on the shelf, or maybe in the back issue bins.
