Avatar (2009) - DVD review

Avatar, director by James Cameron was released in December 2009 and rapidily became the highest grossing movie of all time. The sci fi romantic adventure, set on the planet of Pandora, tells the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) a crippled marine, who goes to Pandora as a last minute replacement for his murdered twin brother.
While the movie is visually spectacular, the script is clumsy, and the story far from original. Sully, in the Avatar created by mixing Human and Navi DNA is accepted amongst The People and taught the way of their lives, along the way falling in love with the Chief's daughter Neytiri (Zoe Saldana).
Coming to understand the native people, and learning of their connection to the land the humans covet, Sully finds himself at odds with both cultures.
I am a huge fan of this movie. I saw it at the Cinema a couple of times and tonight I managed to find the time to watch the DVD.
Apart from the script problems and the cliche riddled dialogue, Avatar is an epic adventure on the grandest of scales. The film was the star making turn for Australian actor Sam Worthington, and the cast of the film is simply unbeatable, including Sigourney Weaver, CCH Pounder and Stephen Lange as the evil Colonel Miles Quaritch.
Avatar stands up well on DVD, converting to the more expected 2D admirably. Avatar is a film that you can watch over and over, each time gaining something new.
